  • Trails sometimes close for weather; call before visiting. Flash floods are common, and the river rises fast: leave the river area at once if the water rises or turns muddy.
  • No swimming or wading at the falls and no boat put-ins/take-outs in the falls area.
  • Scheduled hunt closures (permitted hunters only), as posted 2026-10-28: 10pm Nov 21 to 2pm Nov 24; 10pm Dec 13 to 2pm Dec 17; 10pm Jan 18 to 2pm Jan 22.
  • Pets on leashes of 6 ft or less in Texas state parks.
Info checked
Oct 28, 2026 from official park pages. Closures change; check before you go.

Pedernales Falls State Park lies along the Pedernales River, about 30 miles west of Austin. Trails range from a half-mile walk to the falls overlook to loops of three to eleven miles through cedar woods and past springs and creeks. Juniper Ridge, nearly ten miles of technical singletrack, draws experienced mountain bikers, while hikers and runners can link longer routes. Reserve ahead for busy days and stay clear of the river when flooding threatens.

Rides, runs & races nearby

Routes and trail info are for planning only and may be out of date. Conditions change fast after rain. Never cross a low-water crossing with water flowing over it. Ride and run only where it's public and allowed; respect closed gates, private property and park rules. A line on a map is not permission to be somewhere. You go at your own risk. Spotted a problem?
